GCC Imposes Anti-Dumping Duties on Chinese Aluminium Imports Amid Surging Influx

 The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has enacted anti-dumping duties on aluminium alloy products from China, effective March 20, 2025. This decision, announced by the GCC Ministerial Committee, is a direct response to the substantial surge in Chinese aluminium imports, which have been entering the regional market at prices deemed unfairly low.

Following a comprehensive investigation and recommendation by the GCC Permanent Committee for Anti-Injurious Practices in International Trade, the duties target flat or grained rectangular (including square) aluminium alloy sheets, plates, coils, and strips, coated or colored, with a thickness between 2.0 mm and 8 mm. The GCC Secretariat General's data highlights a dramatic increase in Chinese aluminium import volumes. In 2024, imports reached 380,638 tonnes, a 25% year-on-year increase from 304,520 tonnes in 2023. Since 2022, Chinese aluminium imports have consistently exceeded 300,000 tonnes annually.

The GCC’s Bureau of Technical Secretariat for Anti-Injurious Practices in International Trade concluded that these Chinese products are being dumped, meaning they are sold below their production cost or domestic market value in China. This practice undermines the competitiveness of GCC-based aluminium manufacturers.

The anti-dumping duties aim to protect the GCC's growing aluminium industry, which is vital for economic diversification.
